The Sufficiency Gospel

Principle of Generosity

Another important principle of interpretation for the analysis of the materials is what can be called here the author’s own principle of generosity , formulated as: ‘If face to face with the person I am criticizing, would I be willing to speak the words I am writing for publication? If not, then those words are not appropriate for publication’ (p. 174).   The application of this interpretative principle to the FTM gives the book its constructive originality which in turn makes it a balanced critique regarding, among other things, its way of approaching a very controversial movement which is loved by many people but also criticized by many others. Alien Fear

~ The sovereign king of the entire universe is our Father. He has not only created us, but he has also recreated us in Jesus Christ and has provided everything we need. Paul tells the timid Timothy,  “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Tim 1:7 KJV).”  Unbelieving, sinful fear is contrary to what God has put in us at conversion (Rom 8:15). We overcome the grip of fear by knowing what God has done for us and in us through his Son. We break fear’s grip by realizing God did not give this fear to us; rather, he has given us the spirit of power, love, and self-control. Scott, Stuart; Lambert, Heath. Counseling the Hard Cases (p. 80). B&H Publishing. Kindle Edition.  “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” ~ 1 John 4:18
